So - Why Do YOU Blog?

February 23, 2007

I was hoping that some of you would answer this on your own. Remember my #2 reason for blogging? I’m nosey.

So come on, go ahead and share why you blog. Or do I really have to shout out some names?

I’ll have to think a bit about this question… but i suppose that on some level I have always thought in “blog”. I have always had these funny thoughts or observations or maybe even not so funny, that seemed to not fit into ordinary conversation. I can’t go on and on about the rain or why I like soup or whatever in a regular conversation. I used to send out emails called “weird things I see”, which were really blog entries that had no place to belong. I started the blog and stopped sending them, thinkng that rather than bothering people by forcing my essay at them, i would just post them out into the void and see who came by to read. :)

I’m sure the real reason I blog is long and complex and existential, but that’s the short reason.

This is a fun question. It probably needs its own post. And I probably shouldn’t be answering it when I’m supposed to be writing the first draft of a history paper that is due *sigh* tomorrow. But I’m going to anyway.

I blog because (a) I’m really a little self-absorbed and, surprise!, I like to see my own words magically appear on a screen. It’s like being published, only without all the hard work. I’m not sure that that’s a good thing. But I also blog because (b) I like the writing itself, it’s a good way of sorting out my thoughts, and having it public (as opposed to writing in a journal) forces me to be a little clearer than I otherwise might be. Finally, (c) I like the interaction with other bloggers and readers. I don’t have comments on my blog, but I do have an email link. And every so often someone clicks on it and sends a note my way. I love getting email from people continents and worlds removed from me, people that I’ve never even met, but who stumbled across Autumn Rain and found a friend.

    Allison,
I so understand about blogging when I should be doing something else! I finally finished my Old Testament exam (14 pages). The ending is weak, but hopefully when i reproof it in the am, something brillaint will pop out of my brain.

So anyway, thank you for answering tonight.

Cool answers. I can related to those too.

It is cool to meet and make friends with people removed from my circle of acquaintances; and to make acquantances into friends.

And for months and months, I had a mystery commneter on my blog. Everytime she commented my sista and I would puzzle our brians trying to figure out who it was. Thansk for the fun, doodah.

I think blogging is juist plain fun!

BTW - I looked at your school load, Allison, and I will be praying for you these coming weeks. Your name and request is already on my BIG white board behind my desk. :-)
