Belated Birthday Wishes; I Got the Pressie

. at . 3 comments

Yesterday Scotland celebrated the birth of poet Robert Burns. It is one of their National Days much like our 4th of July.

According to Keziah it’s done with the country turning out to a Burns Supper which is a “big party with good food, speeches, singing and dancing.” Read more about this at her site.

After reading all this, I’m inspired to host my own Burns Supper as a tribute to my Scottish roots. My clan is Mc-something (real helpful, eh?). I do remember (from research) that we were small and under the protection of the Campbell clan. I have a clan kilt and bookmarker somewhere. I picked up several kilts from a thrift shop in Scotland when we visited too many years ago.

Now the pressie (present) part, in the mail yesterday, I received a “Scottish” book: 44 Scotland Street. This book “was originally published as a serial in The Scotsman newspaper.” I scan the online version of The Scotsman newspaper most days so I am anxious to read this book. BUT I am waiting until I am more than caught up with my homework – which might not happen until the end of this quarter, mid March.  😦

Here’s a bit of weird family history for you. Which one of my family members would wear our clan kilt to high school just because? If you guessed my son, Timothy, you guessed correctly.

You had better warn Thomas that all the girls will be flocking to him! There is nothing like a man in a kilt!

If you host a Burns Dinner, you must invite the FunGirls. We are scottish too. Rima and her mom as well – they and Deb L are from the same clan even! We go to the Scottish Games in April if you’d like to join us. 🙂

Keziah – It’s the girl-magnet thing that attracted my son to wearing his kilt. He DID get lots of attention. 🙂

Doodah – I had no clue. I just put the names you mentioned on my calendar. My sista thinks it’s a good idea too.

    What clan are they?

I’d love to go to the Scottish games, if I’m not up to my eyeballs in homework! I’ll contact you in case you don’t get back here.
