Making Sunday More Enjoyable

. at . 9 comments

Sundays are full of pre-church stuff, church stuff, and then post-church stuff. I get home about 1 pm and I am TIRED! Not only because of the Sunday morning schedule, but also because of a busy day and late night before.

And since I didn’t get ready for Sunday’s needs in advance, I have to get up early on Sunday to do them.

No more!

I want a sane Sunday. I want to enjoy Sunday. I want to be ready to hear and interact with the sermon and the people around me. I want to have a happy, refreshed spirit as I worship God. I want to be refreshed come Monday and not wiped out!

So the first habit I will work on is getting my church clothes/shoes/purse ready on Saturday. The first thing Saturday morning. Before I do anything else. Even breakfast. I’ll report back how it went.

What do you do to have a sane Sunday? Want to join me in my new pursuit?

I’m beginning to not like Sunday mornings, too. There is just too much going on! Good luck this week, this is a great habit!

This is a good habit! I need to do the same, for some reason sunday is worse than school days for us. It’s like the stars have to align in order for us to all be ready to go somewhere at the same time. Good luck!

Prechuch: I get everything ready the night before.Clothes & items I need to take with me. The other thing I do is on Saturday evenings from 6-8pm we all listen to Praire Home Companion & sometimes play games (game nite is on Tuesday). It makes for a relaxing evening.

Church day: I pray while putting on makeup & doing my hair. I remind myself why I go to church other than the fact I am the C.M. Director. I go to worship, to fellowship & to be refreshed. I also pray that I can be a blessing to someone or encourage someone. I also thank God I have these opportunties to serve Him & to commune with Him. My drive is short but I do turn on the classical station on the way or family radio. Sometimes I don’t I just need the quiet.

Post Church: I am still working on that. Several weeks ago we walked home, it was great, cleared my head. The one thing I do now is I carry my bulletin & pen around with me. If something comes my way or I meet someone new, I write it down. During 2nd service, if I am not needed in any class I head to my office & do some work. I transfer my notes to my C.M. binder. I also make sure I am packed up to go home once I am ready to leave. Post church is hard for me, I would like to visit more with people.

We have had a much easier time now that Church is at 11:00 instead of 9:00 but the thing that helps me the most is taking my shower the night before. I don’t mind if my kids shower that morning because it actually gives them something to do while I’m getting ready but if I am showering that morning then I feel too rushed.

I also don’t plan anything for Saturday nights unless it is unavoidable. I love having a relaxing evening and getting to bed early.

I’m so glad you’re doing this because I want to get more organized for the Sabath too. I can’t wait to read how it’s going!

I need to start doing this. Usually Saturday is either the only day as a family or the only day Hubby can watch kids so I can have a sanity break. Then we get wrapped up in other things and Sunday morning becomes a rush of “what’s not wrinkled, what didn’t we wear last week, did you brush your teeth and put your shoes on?” LOL We are trying to make Sunday more of an actual Sabbath rest day. I remember when I lived with my Mom/stepDad who were both on church staff and living in the parsonage…Sundays were so stressful, I really dreaded it. I wish there was some way that those of us who benefit from yours and lynette’s and all the other Servants at Church, could make it easier for you all to have some Sabbath time too.

  • […] Last month’s habit was “getting my church clothes/shoes/purse ready on Saturday. The first thing Saturday morning. Before I do anything else.”  I’ve been mostly successful in that. Let me tell you, my mornings are noticably more peaceful when I do that. Especially because I always wait until the last minute to get ready to go anywhere! […]
