2 Days To My 50th Birthday

. at . 5 comments

By the end of my 50th year, I hope to have some new personal habits in place & taken care of some important personal things, like plan my funeral. (No, I don’t have some deadly illness or have a premonition about an early demise.)

My biggest category is under PERSONAL. I could have separated them out to health, beauty, impact on world, etc. But I didn’t want to make this too complicated.

My personal list includes . . .

  1. Go to bed by 10 p.m. 4 nights/wk
  2. Sabbath rest 2 Sundays a month
  3. Do one crafty thing a month
  4. Find a sport I like/can do regularly – 3 x’s week
  5. Do 1 thing out of my comfort zone
  6. Learn and tell well 4 jokes
  7. Invite people to my house 6 x’s
  8. Join an accountability group
  9. Clean out trunk of car
  10. Go to the dentist
  11. Get a pedicure
  12. Get my nails done every 6 weeks
  13. Plan my funeral
  14. Install a clothesline – use 2x’s mo
  15. Pick up trash 1x week

Want to share some of your personal goals?

I’m achieving goals in other categories as well. They are educational, finances, organize, others, and outings.

More good things on your list. It might seem weird to some, but planning your funeral is good. My Dad died of emphysema at 55. At 35 even, I was just not prepared to face everything in my grief, but he had everything planned out. It was such a blessing.

    Thanks for the links, Lynette.

    Theresa, I guess I don’t think it’s weird either for 2 reasons.

    1. I worked at a funeral home as a night time receptionaist when I was in college. I saw then how helpful it was to those who planned ahead.

    2. When my dad died we, of course, went to the funeral home to pick out the casket etc. For some reason I just could NOT go in and do that. I’ve always felt badly that I left my family to do that.

So, I hope to have all settled for them. And hope it is a “fun” and encouraging funeral.

I love your list! And I would love to help you do some of the items. We can talk when I see you next. πŸ˜€

I agree about the planning of a funeral. People should do all of that when they are young and healthy and there is no sadness to cope with — then when the event happens and your loved ones are missing you and grieving, they don’t have to mess with a bunch of practical stuff. They can just feel their feelings and celebrate your life. Good stuff!

Doodah, You are on! I look forward to our meeting on Monday.

Also by pre-planning the funeral (I just typed wedding. Isnt that funny), it should be cheaper. Because then the family will not feel pressured to spend tons of money on a container or casket for my final remains and other wedding expenses. I left the word wedding this time. πŸ™‚

Maybe there could be a raffle for who gets to take my remains home – if I end up doing the cremation thing that is. Instead of a first dance with the bride, it could be a final goodbye. The funeral expenses could come out of that.
