5 Reasons I Love My State

I am a native-born Californian. And as a native-born, I am proud of my state. Go here to see why GeoTripper loves CA. I didn’t know that CA has a state song. Here’s our state song (I Love You, California song lyrics) with more gorgeous photos. Below are some of the reasons I love it here.

Beauty. I am close to the majestic Redwoods, Yosemite, numerouss lakes, and the beautiful city of San Francisco. I am also 90ish minutes away from both the ocean and the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The wild flowers are awesome too.This year I hope to go to Daffodil Hill. Can you believe I’ve never been?!
Disneyland. My mom loved this park. Therefore I have been there with her more times than I can count. It has been too long since I’ve played there. As my kiddos have no desire to go anymore, I plan on going with a friend in early December. I am saving pennies in my pink piggybank for this trip.
Educational opportunities. These range from junior colleges to PhD programs as well as non-credit courses at local schools and classes through learning exchanges. The libraries also have tons of free resources.
Food. We have access to a wide variety of fresh produce, dairy, and meat year round. This abundance of different types of food can be found at the ethnic markets, food co-ops, and Saturday markets. Obviously then we also have access to all types of restaurants with all kinds of delicious food.
The Arts. We have access to great art, theatre, and musicals. I never take advantage of this often enough. Maybe this year. My first goal is to go someplace local, The Crocker Art Museum. Wanna come with me?

Sometimes I’m sad that we don’t have some of the cool historical sights like other parts of the US and other countries have. Then I think about how we have an amazing geography.

We have redwood forests, agricultural valley, pacific coasts, the highest point (in the contiguous US) Mt. Whitney and the lowest in Death Valley. Amazing! We also have the tallest trees (coastal redwoods), the largest trees (sequoias), and the oldest trees (bristlecone pines). There’s nothing more beautiful and relaxing then camping in some of our forests.

I would love to go to the East Coast or Europe, but when I only have $100 and a weekend, a campout in the Sequoias will do me nicely!

Great description, Denise, of what our state offers geographically. Camping in one of these awesome forests is certainly a treat!

Some of the historical sites that the East Coast doesn’t have are missions.They are not grandiose but have history admittedly not all “nice.”

I know that California has lost some of its luster over the years, but I still believe it’s one of the most diverse geographic and cultural areas of the US. I love living here and one of the things that I love the most is the geographic diversity. Where else could you visit the snow capped mountains and the ocean all in one day. When I’ve travelled to other countries, and someone asks me where I’m from, If I say the US I usually get a nonresponse of sorts, but when I say California it almost always draws some sort of acknowledgement and positive recognition.

  I think the same, Reggie, about California losing some of its “luster over the years.” It makes me sad and angry that is so. I think that’s why it was good for me to think on the blessings of living here. with this being the state of Hollywood, Beverly Hills, our beaches, and Disneyland, many, many people from around the world have a positive view of CA.
