Using Senses to Experience Blessings Heightens the Gratitude

. at . 12 comments

Recounting blessings surrounding me from this past week is Thursday’s work. Go to Friday’s Fave Five to read posts from others who join in this weekly gratitude hunt.

Using my senses to experience a tiny slice of these blessings heightens my gratitude and reminds me of how present God is in the “ordinary.” For I know it is God who has given colour that the eyes hungrily seek, sound that the ears swallow, good touch that the body craves, and life-affirming Truth that the spirit of the Believer navigates toward.

I am grateful for the following blessings . . .

  1. Pink-hued sky and its equally fetching river reflection turning black as the sun hunkered down into the southern hemisphere.
  2. Foot-long, peaceful, senior, family dog snuggled into my drowsy body.
  3. Melodic ticking of 3 clocks from different time zones reminding me of loved ones near and far.
  4. God using Scripture and this week’s mid-week Bible study material to shine truth into a situation, dissolving a pity-party before it started.
  5. Iridescent blue, squarish car with a cloth, black roof, popping out like a 3D figure amongst 2 rows of muted brown and grey cars that were hood-to-bumper-to-hood.
Your Turn . . .  Using your senses describe some blessings you encountered this week.

Love your senses blessings! And your beautiful word pictures. I can just imagine that sunset and your dog snuggled in next to you. Thankful, along with you, to have Scripture come to mind that shines truth!

    Happy weekend!

So thankful for our senses. Yes, they definitely heighten our experience of God’s blessings.

“dissolving a pity-party before it started”—definitely a favorite for me too, when I can allow it to work that way. ha. Have a great weekend.

Okay, one of my own: I downloaded some classical music this week that is so beautiful to hear.

A beautiful sky can definitely be relaxing to the soul. And God’s Word is most definitely powerful.

    Great list!

Great list highlighting the gift of our five senses! I especially liked the phrase “dissolving a pity-party before it started.” Oh if only all pity parties were dissolved!

    Creative list of faves!!
I had to laugh when i saw your comment about sending boxed brownies. I DO NOT bake brownies from a box…..YUCK and DOUBLE YUCK! i only bake brownies from scratch :)…seriously, i have over 15 brownie recipes and I’ve tried them all but 2. those 2 i will try this winter! 🙂 and I did try to link the mexican chicken recipe to the post but for some reason it didn’t work. You can find it by going online to Simple and Delicious via Taste of Home website. I think you might have to set up an account to actually see the recipe but i’m not sure..it came up for me just fine but when i tried to link it it wouldn’t work so don’t know if it’s because i don’t have an acct with them or if it was a blogger issue. at any rate….have a great weekend!

Lovely sunsets are truly a wonder to watch fade away. Snuggling with your doggie sounds very comforting too.
“dissolving the pity party” is a great reminder!
    Have a happy weekend.

Loved how you capitalized on sensory experiences and descriptions! The sunset sounds gorgeous. Stopping a pity party before it starts is a good thing. God’s Word is good at repairing attitudes, but we need to use it preventively as well.

You have a wonderful way of using words describing your faves through your senses this week. I like #4 particularly — we need that light.
