5 Blessings for Friday’s Fave Five
Friday’s Fave Five is here again. That’s when I look over my past week and share five blessings. If you’d like to do the same, share in the comments or write a post and link up to Susanne’s blog at Living to Tell the Story.
1. For years I have needed to take control of my eating, especially my night-time eating. The last week in December I decided to not eat after 7pm and to have a green smoothie for breakfast. I have been consistent on both since then. In fact it seems easy to do these. I attribute the change in mindset to answered prayer.
2. I tend to follow the rules in a black and white kind of way which was hindering me in getting X’s. You see I mark on the calendar how well I do each day regarding my morning smoothie and no eating after 7pm. A couple of days this past month I’ve gone to a party that had food. I made allowances in my food plan and did not over eat. I wasn’t sure if I could legitimately get a mark on the calendar. Then a friend asked, was the goal to not eat after 7 or to not have a wild night of overeating. Well, it was the latter. That simple conversation helped me to clarify how and when I get X’s.
3. This week I was feeling the need to get with my sista’s family to play a game. Turns out they felt the same way. We played Scrabble. I haven’t played that game in y-e-a-r-s. It was such a lovely evening. Even though I came in last, it’s a game I understand and can do (unlike many of their video games).

One of my nieces helped me create winter scenes in 2 children's classrooms at church. The snowflakes we made turned out so well.
4. I am not a winter lover. This week I decided I needed an attitude adjustment even though our winter has been very mild! So, I wrote a post on 5 reasons I love winter. It was a great reminder that there are plenty of reasons (well at least 5) to rejoice in this season.
5. This month I’ve been working in the nursery on Sundays at church. I don’t typically do that. Besides getting to visit with the other worker, I have been able to love on and be loved by the little ones, hear a great Bible story, colour the corresponding Bible page, and we even played with the musical instruments. It has been an enjoyable time. And I know that working there is more than fun, it is important.
BONUS. Another answered prayer. I have been recruiting folks to work in the nursery. I mentioned this to one of our volunteer receptionists. She said, “I used to be on the substitute list, but no one has called me in a l-o-n-g time!” “Oh,” I said. “Would you like to be put back on the list and would you like to help out this week?” Her answer to both was “Yes.”
Your Turn . . . Take some time to think and then comment here on what blessings have been yours this week.

Fortunately I don’t have any eating problems. I have the same weight now for years. I never eat after supper, and I don’t have breakfast just black coffee. I am not hungry in the morning but then we have an early brunch at 11.30. Now that we are retired we can do what we want with our time, lol !

Hi Gattina, Yes, you are fortunate. I almost always eat breakfast, mainly because I wake up hungry! Having an early brunch sounds quite lovely. Maybe when I am retired I will do the same.

Good for you for doing so well on your eating, and hurray for the friend that helped you put the Xs in perspective (you sound so much like me! I would have had the same thoughts about whether I would really get an X or not).
I love Scrabble. I need to see if I can talk my kids into it some time. 🙂 But we’ve been playing games they got for Christmas, and that’s fun, too.
Winter is not my favorite season, either, so i had to go over and look at you winter post. 🙂 I also like oven meals in winter. I don’t use the oven much other seasons because it makes the house so hot, but I love those meals that take an hour or so in the oven in wintertime. It’s nice to stick something in there and then have a break before meal time.

Yumm, Barbara. Oven meals are delish. My fave is pot roast..
I have something called “Sunday Dinner.” You put a meat, a cream soup, liquid (apple juice, beer, wine, water), sliced peeled potatoes and a veggie all into a dutch oven. Into the oven it goes before church and it was all ready to eat when we got home. Hose smelled great and we there was no waiting to feed the hungry little ones.

I love scrabble! Let’s play sometime.
You have me on the nursery schedule, right?
I’m not a January lover. But this year I’m liking it, could be all sunny days. Also could be some new things have pop up, made some changes and tried new things. There on my fff’s for today.
Anytime you have the winter blues, just pop over for a spot of tea. Besides it is about time we did tea together, it’s been awhile.

Yes. Lynette, to the nursery schedule and yes to Scrabble.
And yes, you are an answer to prayer for the previous week regarding nursery!!!!
I will go have a look at your FFF as you have me quite curious. 😉
And finally, YES to having tea together again. It is always a good time. I never know where the conversation will go. BUT I do know that GOD will be part of the conversation. And that’s a huge YES in my book.

Oh Scrabble is one of our fave games and we play it often! It’s so much fun with extended family too! Yay for nutritious eating and a healthier lifestyle. Power walking is simple! just get a really GOOD pair of walking sneakers. LLBean makes a good pair as does Sketchers. I am sure there are other brands as well. those are the 2 i use. Get comy clothes and ear muffs if there is wind for that biting winter cold. Get your ipod if you have one. and just walk, FAST! I do a 2 miles circuit that begins FAST< then I slow, then I go FAST again and towards the end I slow. Check with your doctor first if you have knee issues. Power walking also involves moving your arms while you walk. I call it "walking your arms" where you swing them as you walk. It really does burn calories. Not sure HOW i am gonna manage it tomorrow…it's supposed to only be in the low 20.s BRR…we 've had a very mild winter thus far!

Good for you for setting some good goals. It’s been years since I’ve played Scrabble. I’m glad you were able to recruit a nursery worker through example…
Winter is not my favorite season except for when I lived in Southern California…
Have a wonderful weekend.

I love the picture of yourself in the mirror, lol. I’ll join in to congratulate you on your rules, I feel rather challenged myself to do the same, I think it would help my weight a lot.

Good for you on meeting your healthy eating goals! It is not easy to change those habits.
I like your winter scene. Good for you for coming up with 5 reasons to like winter. I don’t think I could.

Love your list this week. And the winter scene is SO cute! As a mom, I can tell you that your nursery work is SO important.
I’m asking FFF friends to pray for my son’s healing and recovery. Long road ahead, and I am learning. Take care and have a good week!

Great job on the eating goals. I’ve set some up for myself this year and hope to stick with them. Good point on adding prayer to strengthen us during our eating “issues.” I have also done that; I realize that obviously I cannot do this alone. The smoothie looks yummy!

Well done on keeping to your goals, Susan! I like that you gave yourself a concrete reminder (7pm) to keep you from mindless snacking. Hopefully, this winter won’t be too taxing on you. The classroom scene is very cute, as are those pretty snowflakes! Enjoy your weekend 🙂

Hurray for you on staying on task with your goals. I was walking every day until yesterday–and now today (Sunday) I’m sidetracked with a cold. I’ll take your friend’s advice to heart. My goal is to exercise to stay healthy–I can jump back in after I lick this cold.
I love Scrabble too! Have you played Bananagrams? It’s like Speed Scrabble. And you don’t keep score 🙂
