31 Days of Finishing – Day 13: Delegation is a Good Idea When You Don’t Know What You Are Doing

Day 13 - This delegated job worked out beautifully.

Day 13 – This delegated job worked out beautifully.

One idea many productivity blogs, experts, and books tout is to delegate tasks whenever possible. Today I was able to do that and quite happily.

This story started w…a…y… back on October 2nd.  I did some internet research on hubcaps to replace the 3 cracked off or kidnapped ones. By poking around on Amazon I found some hubcaps. Alas, I couldn’t figure out whether to get the 14″ or 15″ ones.

I decided to get my tires rotated the next day and ask at America’s Tires what I needed.  I mentioned that I had found some for $22 and how much was their’s and how much would they charge to put them on?

I could get some for $22 and there was NO INSTALLATION fee because it took like 3 minutes to put them on.

“SOLD.” I just about yelled. I didn’t have to go home and order them on Amazon. And more importantly I DIDN’T have to put them on. I just DELEGATED this task and at a GREAT price to me.

Moral of the story? Delegate whenever you can. From parking to paying to watching Sean put on the hubcabs, I spent 12 minutes on this task. Although Sean made it look easy to put on the hubcaps, I know it would have taken me longer to do the same job. And I wouldn’t have gotten up and down so easily or gracefully.

They are soooooo shiny and lovely. I hope no-one nicks these.

BONUS TIP: If you are a single female looking for someone, my daughter said as we were leaving, “So this is where all the cute guys in Rancho are.”

During this month of October I am joining LOTS of bloggers hosted by The Nester who will be writing every day about a topic. My topic is about finishing. I will spend 31 minutes each day on a to-do item (from the secondary list).

I will write about it and share any productivity tips I find helpful to FINISHING things.

Go here for the Landing Page with all the posts (which go live as they are written). The list is towards the bottom of the page. Go to the following link for Day 14: Little by Little a Lot Gets Done.

Your Turn . . .

  • What was the last task you delegated? Do you find that method works out for you?
  • Did you do anything on your secondary to-list today? If yes, share what you did. If no, why not?
