Five Blessings

fff-delicate-leavesThis  month I have been paying closer attention to my thoughts and words. It has been a no complaining month.

Being part of Friday’s Fave Five assists me in both goals. Below are only five blessings from this past week.

BLESSING ONE: One click – The peace that Unfollow on Facebook brings. My main reason to be on Facebook is to share my photos and life events with others and to read the same in return. I have no wish to read rancorous posts and comments that divide. I don’t mind education posts; I even post those kind, too. But when there is disagreement, I want it to be a respectful disagreement.

Lat week one friend told me about Unfollow in Facebook. I researched and now my page is drama free.

BLESSING TWO: Connection. Lunch at Tower restaurant and a movie at an old-fashioned theatre with one of my besties. We saw Queen of Katwe.

Here are some of my fave quotes . . .

  • “Sometimes the place you are used to, is not the place where you belong,” (Coach Katende).
  • What matters is that you reset the pieces [on the chess board]  and you play again,” (Coach Katende)
  • “Do not be quick to tip your queen, Fiona,” (Coach Katende). In other words, don’t be quick to give up.
  • “Losing doesn’t make you a failure,” (Coach Katende).

As you can see, I sure like a LOT of what Coach taught the kiddos in his chess club. This inspiring, true-life story is worth seeing.

BLESSING THREE: Coveted book – Reading Louise Penny’s latest novel. I was on a L.O.N.G. wait list and I do mean LONG (from the library) for this book. I saw the book at Marsha’s house before we went to the movies. (See Blessing Two). On her table was A Great Reckoning.

Marsha belongs to our library’s book club and the facilitator/librarian had bought and saved all the members a copy of this 2016 release. Marsha lent me her copy which I read over the weekend. I am grateful that I didn’t have to wait several more months (at least) before getting to read this latest installment of Inspector Gamache. And it was worth giving up my weekend to read it.

me-with-pepperschoc-applesBLESSING FOUR: Creative cooking. Marsha made this Chunky Mango Guacamole Recipe. It was similar to the salsa we had at the Tower restaurant this week.

Marsha made a delicious rice and chicken dish that we baked in pumpkin-looking orange bell peppers. These orange peppers were so sweet and a great taste compliment to the filling. I did the “carving.”

For dessert we made chocolate caramel apples with fixings. Both were tasty and fun to make. We used this recipe.

It was fun experimenting with both these recipes. I would do either of them again.

BLESSING FIVE: Lost and then FOUND. For a couple of months I didn’t remember where I put my tablet. One day this week it showed up. When the tablet was gifted to me, I didn’t think I’d needed one. I was wrong. I have come to LOVE this gadget and it is in the top three of my fave tech possessions.

I hope your week has at least five faves. Share then in the comments or write a post and link up with Susanne’s here.

Your Turn . . .

Didn’t know you found your tablet. Yay! What a fun evening we had. We, of course, shall do it (or something like it) again soon, Bestie. 🙂

What a delicious dinner it sounds like you had with your friend!
I’ve not heard of the book or the movie…..but the movie def sounds like a good one. Hopefully it will get to Netflix in the future. That’s where I tend to watch them 🙂
I just finished an excellent book titled “What She Knew” (posted the review on my blog) and the one before that was even better “The Book of James”. (again, review is on my blog). HIGHLY recommend those. If you like drama and suspense.

Yes….that UNFOLLOW button is awesome isn’t it? i’ve done that to many friends on my list mainly because of political posts. ugh.

    Happy weekend!!

Thanks for the tip. I put the book, What She Knew, on hold at the library. It doesn’t have The Book of James – yet anyway.

Susan! It’s been too long since I’ve come for a visit.

I’ve found that an hour per month is a good-enough dose of FB for me. Yes, there’s probably a lot I’ve missed, but there’s so little mental space left these days for the drama.

And I see you’re a Louise Penny fan, too 🙂 I started the series with audiobooks and have all but the last two to listen to. So glad you got your hands on the long-awaited installment.

Ugh, to lose one of your fave tech tools must’ve been a bummer. How nice that it reappeared!

I think it was someone here with FFF that mentioned Louise Penny. I read her first book and then I was HOOKED! I am not usually one who reads series books but this past year I have turned into one. I don’t know which series I will read next though!

I love Unfollow, especially this time of year. The previews to that movie looked really good – I am glad to hear the movie itself is. I’ll have to keep it in mind next time we watch a movie. I can’t think when was the last time we watched a whole movie – maybe Zootopia back in the summer with the family. We’ve been keeping up with a few TV shows and watching UT Vols games on the weekends, so not as much time for movies, though I have several I want to see. I’ve not heard of Louise Penny before. I just finished a wonderful book that I hope to review in the next few days: Secrets of a Charmed Life by Susan Meissner. So glad you found your tablet! I treasure mine as well.

Secrets of a Charmed Life sounds intriguing. I am #13/13 for the list at the library. It is so fun to read books that others have recommended.

Hello Susan, Lots of good things here. Another friend of mine talked about the movie you went to. Love the quotes. I am hiding sooooo many posts on Facebook. UGH. I hate controversy. I’m almost finished with The Great Reckoning. I so enjoy Louise Penny’s writing. My husband and I have listened to several of the books on cd on roadtrips…such a great companion on the road. Hope you are having a good weekend.

You had a great week–lunches and dinners with special people.
Books I’ve read? The one I’m almost finished with is titled “The Last Frontier” which is a book about the history of the American frontiers.
At home, we often watch old movies–even old silent movies. The last one we watched was a Buster Keaton western.

I’d really like to see that movie – unfortunately it’s not showing in our general cinemas.Hopefully it will be on Netflix sometime soon!

I had stuffed peppers for the first time this week – they were delicious.

I haven’t read “a great” book lately – not fiction at least. I’ve read Susie Larsen’s non-ficiton book, Your Powerful Prayers – it was very good. I read a children’s book by Michael Morpurgo’s entitled A Medal for Leroy. I don’t think it was his best book but it was a good read. I’m starting the Flavia de Luce series by Alan Bradley – The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie is the first. I’m not sure I’ll like it – but I’m going to give it a good try. I’ve tried Still Life twice and couldn’t get into it. I may try again as I hear nothing but rave reviews!

Hope you have a great week!
