Five Blessings

This  month I have been paying closer attention to my thoughts and words. It has been a no complaining month.

Being part of Friday’s Fave Five assists me in both goals. Below are only five blessings from this past week.

BLESSING ONE: One click – The peace that Unfollow on Facebook brings. My main reason to be on Facebook is to share my photos and life events with others and to read the same in return. I have no wish to read rancorous posts and comments that divide. I don’t mind education posts; I even post those kind, too. But when there is disagreement, I want it to be a respectful disagreement.

Lat week one friend told me about Unfollow in Facebook. I researched and now my page is drama free.

BLESSING TWO: Connection. Lunch at Tower restaurant and a movie at an old-fashioned theatre with one of my besties. We saw Queen of Katwe.

Here are some of my fave quotes . . .

• “Sometimes the place you are used to, is not the place where you belong,” (Coach Katende).
• What matters is that you reset the pieces [on the chess board]  and you play again,” (Coach Katende)
• “Do not be quick to tip your queen, Fiona,” (Coach Katende). In other words, don’t be quick to give up.

As you can see, I sure like a LOT of what Coach taught the kiddos in his chess club. This inspiring, true-life story is worth seeing.

BLESSING THREE: Coveted book – Reading Louise Penny’s latest novel. I was on a L.O.N.G. wait list and I do mean LONG (from the library) for this book. I saw the book at Marsha’s house before we went to the movies. (See Blessing Two). On her table was A Great Reckoning.

Marsha belongs to our library’s book club and the facilitator/librarian had bought and saved all the members a copy of this 2016 release. Marsha lent me her copy which I read over the weekend. I am grateful that I didn’t have to wait several more months (at least) before getting to read this latest installment of Inspector Gamache. And it was worth giving up my weekend to read it.

BLESSING FOUR: Creative cooking. Marsha made this Chunky Mango Guacamole Recipe. It was similar to the salsa we had at the Tower restaurant this week.

Marsha made a delicious rice and chicken dish that we baked in pumpkin-looking orange bell peppers. These orange peppers were so sweet and a great taste compliment to the filling. I did the “carving.”

For dessert we made chocolate caramel apples with fixings. Both were tasty and fun to make. We used this recipe. 

It was fun experimenting with both these recipes. I would do either of them again.

BLESSING FIVE: Lost and then FOUND. For a couple of months I didn’t remember where I put my tablet. One day this week it showed up. When the tablet was gifted to me, I didn’t think I’d needed one. I was wrong. I have come to LOVE this gadget and it is in the top three of my fave tech possessions.
