Day 19 – Recipes

“The smells of slow cooking spread around the house and impart a unique warmth matched only by the flavour of the food,” Yotam Ottolenghi.

Do you like to cook? Do you prepare meals during the week or mainly on the weekends? Are you comfortable with your cooking skills?

My answers are as follows: Yes … No set time … Yes.

My home smells divine and inviting when I am cooking. I know that home cooked meals are cheaper and better quality. I can control what doesn’t go into them (gluten and excess sugar). There are many sites that showcase fast meals. So lack of time doesn’t have to be a deterrent. And there are many sites that teach cooking skills. So that deterrent is knocked away, too.

While this is not a cooking blog, I do have a Recipe Index of all the recipes I have on this blog. I LOVE every recipe on my index, or else it wouldn’t be there. But for this post, I am going to share only 3 recipes 4 which I am grateful.

ONE. Chocolate Orange Chia Pudding. Breakfast is my favourite meal. I usually eat the same thing for days in a row. This is something I can eat for days in a row. It has a combination of my fave flavours: orange and CHOCOLATE. I LOVE having fast to make, healthy, inexpensive food at my disposal. The next time I make it, I will use this Chocolate Extract that I made.

TWO. Chocolate Chip Shortbread Cookies. This cookie is quick to make, looks professionally made, and tastes GREAT (thanks to the sugar and butter). Slow down long enough to eat 3 of them. Yes, eat 3 or 5. One must always eat an odd number of cookies. Be sure to pair the cookie-eating with a cup of tea or coffee or even a glass of milk. You won’t regret making these or slowing down.

THREE. Sweet Potato Shepherd’s Pie. It was HARD to pick my fave dinner recipe. But in the end I picked this one because it is the definition of comfort food whether you make the pie with whipped (real) white potatoes or whipped (real) sweet potatoes. This post also tells you how to make whipped sweet potatoes.
