MORE vs less: Getting Things Done Motivates Getting Things Done

Day 18 – What decluttering project can you do today that will motivate you tomorrow?

“One thing, that helps me feel like I am on the road to healthy, is getting my projects finished. Having undone projects makes me feel overwhelmed and unmotivated.” ~ Positively Debbie

Not only does getting things done contribute to overall healthy mind-set, it also contributes to forward momentum.

Have you heard how Jerry Seinfeld motivates himself? He takes a calendar and marks an “X” for each day he completes his task of writing every day.

He said for each day that I do my task of writing, I get to put a big red X over that day. “After a few days you’ll have a chain. Just keep at it and the chain will grow longer every day. You’ll like seeing that chain, especially when you get a few weeks under your belt. Your only job next is to not break the chain.”

“Don’t break the chain,” he said again for emphasis. ~ Gina Trapani wrote the above.

So getting things done motivates getting things done. This is  especially true if you can see visible rewards. And as I declutter I see visible rewards.

Your Turn . . . Is that true in your life that getting things done motivates you getting things done?  . . . Have you ever tried this calendar trick? . . . Would you share another declutter motivating hack that works for you?

Day 18 –  31 Minutes of Decluttering = Since I am leaving at the end of the month for a vacation, I am decluttering my office. Why? The reason is morbid, in case I don’t make it back alive. And it will be a joy to come back to such an EMPTY space.

I’m glad it’s working for you. I need to get back to decluttering but have decided to wait until the new year when hopefully our nest will be empty again.
