CNC Will Serve Only Drinkable Tea on Saturday, February 23, 1-3pm in Rudat Hall

xz,mcn,n

Which tea is your favourite? Mine is English Breakfast which is not pictured here. I already drank it all.

There is some dispute as to how many types of teas there are. It seems the number is between 4-7. There is no dispute, however, that at least one tea is not good for the body to drink.

Which one of the following teas does NOT promote health for the body?

  • White
  • Green
  • Compost
  • Herbal

If you guessed compost tea, you would be correct. Compost tea is a tea for the garden.

It is decomposed, nutrient-rich organic matter that is then recycled as fertilizer … soil conditioner, natural pesticide, erosion control, and landfill cover.

SIGN UP TODAY to be part of CNC’s Annual tea. Sign up a friend too.We want to make sure you (two) get a seat.

No Compost Tea Served.

Each table will seat 6-7 ladies. The guests will provide the appetizers for their own table. Your hostess will be in touch with you before the tea.

Your Turn . . . Reply below or call the church office at 635-5992.

CNC Women’s Potluck Fellowship is This Friday (1.20.2012)

Isn’t it great that the women of CNC will gather for their monthly potluck on

What side dish will you bring?

Friday? It is at Deborah’s home from 6-8pm.

Deborah will provide the meatloaf. We bring all the side dishes. I will bring baked potatoes … or maybe a dessert.

Meatloaf is wonderful comfort food. It is supposed to be yucky weather the end of the week. Therefore, comfort food is just the needed thing on Friday night.

Being with CNC ladies is also comforting. And a lot of FUN.  There will be some laughter, too.

If you need directions get a hold of me or Deborah. See you there!

7 Traits of a Successful Tea Hostess

People with the gift of hospitality genuinely enjoy being around others. Your smile, good humour, and other-oriented manner make you a people magnet.

CNC’s women will soon attend their annual tea. Many details are organized in order for this event to be successful. One detail is recruiting hostesses for the tables.

We still need a couple of hostesses. The Tea is Saturday, February 11, 2-4 pm at CNC.

Wondering if you have what it takes to be part of this elite group of women? Read on to see if you, too, have the 7 traits that help make hostesses shine.

1. You have an awareness of visitors. It’s like you have a radar as to who is new to a group. There is no new person who is not a friend in the making for you. You tend to make a beeline in their direction because . . .

2. You have a desire to make people feel welcome. New social situations make most of us uncomfortable. You don’t want guests to feel this way, so you intervene. You are able to do this because . . .

3. You are attentive to the needs of visitors. You have the ability to give special treatment or say the right things so others feel more comfortable. You do what it takes to meet their need at that moment. Because you are good at networking them into social circles . . .

4. You are good at helping people become part of a group. Everyone has a need to belong. Your hospitality skills help guests and the “group” to relate well to each other from the beginning. Because you are not pushy . . .

5. You respect the boundaries of your guests. You are good at not being aggressive in your words and actions toward visitors. You gently lead and let them decide for themselves what actions they will then take. People respond well to you because . . .

6. You enjoy people. Your body language, words, and actions all point to your interest in others. You are sincere and have fun in your relationships. You make the encounter about the other person and not your own needs/wants. People are drawn to you because . . .

7.  You smile at people. This shows that you have a friendly, welcoming attitude. In addition, you are able to emphatically relate to others making them feel understood and liked.

I am thinking of several CNC women who embody these traits and haven’t signed up yet. Come on, ladies, you know who you are!

Contact Michelle White (Tea Coordinator) today to become a hostess. She has a letter of suggestions. If this is your first year as a hostess, don’t worry, Michelle will be there to guide you. In fact, since she, too, has the gift of hospitality, you will be taken care of well.

Your Turn . . .

  • Have you signed up as a tea hostess yet? If not, what is holding you back?
  • Have you ever done this at CNC? If yes, what encouragement do you have for ladies who are thinking about being one?
  • Would you share a time a hostess helped you feel more comfortable at one of our teas?

CNC Women’s Party Features Traditional Christmas Food: 1-3 pm, Sat. Rudat Hall, Dec. 3rd

What are some favorite foods you have each Christmas time?

Perhaps it’s . . .

My family, like yours, has ideas about what makes up Christmas Dinner. Baked orangey-yams with butter and a sprinkle of sea salt, mashed potatoes with gravy, and sliced ham are a few of my family’s savory favorites. On the sweeter side we like Green Stuff (similar to Orange Stuff but you use pistachio pudding and no jello), pumpkin pie, and fudge.

Bring one of your family’s dishes to share at our annual women’s CNC Christmas party. We will invite some of you to share a story that goes along with your traditional dish.

Our 2 hours together will fly by. In addition to eating and visiting with one another, we will play a traditional British party game, Pass the Parcel. And in keeping with tradition at our Christmas parties, we will have a devotional.

Not just a fun time. Women’s ministry hopes that all who attend will have fun with friends old and new, put aside worries, and leave with the peaceful truth that God is in control.

P.S. Bring a friend.

How Good Books Aid in a Child’s Growth

In October I attended a baby shower. Shula gave this awesome devotional.

I love the sweetness of a great story.

I must confess, I recently was up until 3 in the morning finishing the 7th Harry Potter book.

Erich Fromm, in his book, The Art of Loving, speaks of a child’s basic need for milk and honey.

“Milk is the symbol of the care a child receives for his physical needs, for his person. Honey symbolizes the sweetness of life, that special quality that gives the sparkle within a person” (Hunt, 25).

Good books are rich in honey! What makes a good book?

“Stories that make for wonder. Stories that stir one within with an understanding of the true nature of courage, of love, of beauty” (Hunt, 26).

Choice literature engages the imagination. In experiencing a life beyond our boundaries, we come away changed. Consequently, fine literature can impart a sweet wisdom to us.

C.S. Lewis was greatly influenced by the author, George MacDonald. Lewis felt that MacDonald’s works had “baptized” or “redeemed” his imagination (Guroian, 160). An enlarged imagination helped him comprehend God’s handiwork and love, aiding him in his faith.

Steve Jobs’ biography is slated to be released in a few days. Before he died, he was asked why he had authorized it to be written and he replied, “I wanted my kids to know me” (Cooper).

God, the greatest author of all the ages, has written a story. He has written the Bible that we might know Him – it is one of the ways that He has revealed Himself to mankind.

Within Scripture, God often employs stories and parables to help us see greater truths.

  • King David was confronted of his sin with Bathsheba through a story of a poor man and his dear lamb (NIV, 2 Sam. 12).
  • We are convicted to extend our compassion to others through the parable of “The Good Samaritan” (NIV, Luke 10: 25-37).

God is an author without equal. In Hebrews His Son, Jesus, is called the “author of our salvation”  and throughout Scriptures there is reference to those who believe having their names “written in the Lamb’s book of life” (NIV, Rev. 21:27).

Additionally, “all the days ordained for (us) were written in (His) book before one of them came to be” (NIV, Ps. 139:16).

In light of this divine writer of our days, author of our salvation, and keeper of the Lamb’s book of life, it is amazing how we struggle against His will. I think it is fitting that we put our full trust in Him and relinquish our will to His. Let Him be the grand author of our lives’ adventures.

I believe that a life penned by His kind intentions will be far richer that we can imagine.

Today we welcome and celebrate a new story – that of Baby Bethany. The Great Author has already appointed her days. Filling her life with good literature and, more importantly, God’s word will pass on rich blessing to her.

There is one more bit of honey that can be added to her life and that is family storytelling.

  • In your family, recount stories of the special day Bethany, Emily, and Casey were born.
  • Tell about your early courtship and marriage. Repeat these stories often.
  • Also, speak of how you became a Believer.
  • And, most importantly tell of God’s faithfulness in your life. Share stories of how His hand has led you through difficult times, protected you from harm, and has changed your life.

Scripture urges us to “taste and see” that the Lord is good (NIV, Ps. 34:8).  The Lord is the honey of life and He enriches our lives with sweet stories.
