I’m Having a Small Group Attack

Every once in a while I get cravings. You know, the usual: chocolate, ice cream, fried foods, and small group.

Small group? Yep. Small group. It’s been months since I last attended a small group and I am having a craving for small group interaction, learning and accountability.

Fortunately, CNC has a new round of small groups starting the week of October 10th. Pick up the updated Small Group brochure in Rudat Hall on Sunday or from the Office today.

Sign up for the small group that looks good. We’ve got a small group for every taste! Contact me if you have any questions or ideas.

Watch this video for an explanation about  “Small Group Attack.”

Our Story Can Include Freedom Because Christ’s Death Bought It For Us

I cried while watching  Taking Chance tonight (movie starring Kevin Bacon). A young marine, PFC Chance Phelps, died in Iraq. The movie showed the impact of his death and it showed the respect and love others had for PFC Phelps.

Today women and men in our armed forces die to protect freedom. Women and men in our armed forces from past decades died to protect the same. I pray that I, that we, live honorably in recognition of these sacrifices.

Christ died for the sake of freedom too. He died in order that I might, that we, might have freedom from sin and freedom from the grip of eternal death. I pray that I, that we, live honorably in recognition of His sacrifice.

And while Christians have freedom from sin and freedom from the grip of eternal death, sometimes some of us mess up. We don’t live honorable lives. Or we let an unhonorable past cripple our today and thus our future. We don’t let Christ’s sacrifice make a difference in our lives. We discount the impact of His death.

Sister, God has a good future for you, no matter what your past or present-day sins. He longs to complete the good work He started in you on the day of your salvation. He rejoices over you and isn’t shy to let you know this.

Retreat 2010 is about seeing that good story God has for us. Our speaker, Jenny Arnez, will lead us in exploring this story. Please, accept this invitation to Retreat 2010. Our prayer is that each attendee will be positively impacted by the death of Christ . . . that we’ll leave with a clearer sense of God’s love . . . that we’ll grasp and live out our own good story . . . and that we’ll live in the freedom Christ’s death brings.

Mark  June 11-13, 2010 on your calendar as busy! The Retreat is at Zephyr Point. Pick up your Retreat brochure from the brown Secret Sister bookcase.

Turn in your registration form and deposit by Wednesday, March 10. There are only 50 spots. The balance is due Sunday, May 16. LaRee and Marsha are the gals with the information to your questions. I look forward to seeing you there.

6 C’s On My Gratitude List

“Gratefulness is a knowing awareness that we are the recipients of goodness.” Robert Emmons:  Author, Scientist

There are 6 “C” things that bring good to me. No real reason why they all start with the letter C.

  1. 1074861_dice_with_letter_c1. Conversations – Besides giving us the factual news about something, they also bring connection, encouragement, release, humour, and hope.
  2. 2. Community – I’m sure that everyone feels this way about their church, but our church really is the best. It is more than a building, it is community. A place and a people that loves me, encourages me, and lets me love them and encourage them back. And what’s best is that we all unite around a loving, personal God.
  3. Confession – With God and other people – so hard to do, very humbling, but the reward of forgiveness and a clean heart is so worth it. Here are several songs that refresh my heart with hope. Never Been Unloved by Michael W Smith . . . I’m Not Who I Was by Brandon Heath . . . Still Calls Me Son by John Waller
  4. Carrots – Someone gave me a small pile of carrots and broccoli this week. I like them raw and I like 994712_organic_carrots1them in soup. I cooked both in chicken broth until tender and then blenderized them. Just the right food for a sickie. Chip likes it too!
  5. C.A.M.P.– CNC women are invited to this 7 hour event on Sat., Dec. 6. I am grateful that I’ll have a set aside time to address my Christmas cards, learn how to make cake truffles and do lots of visiting ALL before the Holidays start.
  6. 890494_wooden_crown6. “Coronation” – I am so proud of our “Highnesses, the Great “Jeffica.” Their ordination/consecration service and reception was a befitting way for us to celebrate them. I’ve appreciated their ministry and personal examples of integrity, perseverance, humour, humility, and trust in God. I am a better minister and individual because of knowing and working with them.
