Grateful 43 – Things I Do in a Typical Week

Today is the first day of my series, Grateful 43. I will do this for 43 days. Do you see the play on the words 43 and FOR THREE. Some prompts will be light-hearted: I.e. I am grateful 4 3 TV series. And some will be heavy: I.e. I am grateful for three challenges.

Now on to my first gratitude prompt . . . I am grateful for three things I do in a typical week . . .

  1. Sundays. The best part of my week is Sunday. I love going to church to hear the preaching, to sing, to pray with others, to give hugs, and to visit with folks. And at least once a month I get to go out to eat with the senior PEP 55+ group. And sometimes I even get to take a nap! Each one of these things energizes me in spirit, body and/or mind.
  2. Prayer. I get to pray with others twice a week: my prayer partner (Thursdays) and with the staff on Tuesdays. I am emboldened, encouraged, and refreshed by such group prayer. My faith, trust and love for God grows as I see HOW God answers. If you don’t pray with at least one other person regularly, don’t delay and start-up this spiritual practice.
  3. Walk. I walk most nights with my daughter. This is how I make sure to walk 10,000 steps a day. These regular steps are making me stronger, bringing down my blood sugar numbers,  and helping me to sleep  better. And in addition my daughter and I get to catch up.

Go here for the 43 Days of Gratitude JOURNAL Prompts.

Your Turn . . . Answer today’s prompt. I am grateful for 3 things in a typical week.

Sewing Machines and Lessons Transform Lives in India

lkasdjlkasjd

Each machine only costs $60.00.

Do you have a sewing machine? Do you use it very often? Is it vital to your livelihood?

To some women in India having a sewing machine and knowing how to use it well makes a huge difference in their lives. They are able to provide an honorable living and home for themselves.

In late July four of us from Cordova Neighborhood Church are going to India for about 2 1/2 weeks. We are going with LINC Ministries. One of the things we are doing is to raise money for 60 sewing machines which we will buy in India.

These machines will be given  to four sewing centers that LINC Ministries operates.  At the center the women are taught how to be a seamstress. Upon graduation each lady is given a machine so she may then start her own business.

The women who attend the training are women who have been abused. Besides offering the women a skill, they are offered a new life and hope.

All because of a sewing machine.

Would you like to help us with this? On Saturday, May 18, we are having a yard sale, bake sale, car wash, and flea market at Cordova Neighborhood Church from 9am -2pm.

  1. We are taking yard sale and bake sale donations.
  2. We need help with the car wash or one of the other stations.
  3. If you’d like to make a monetary donation, mail your check to LINC Ministries PO Box 1314 Roseville, CA 95678. Or I have addressed, stamped envelopes to LINC for you to use
  4. If you donate money, you can donate towards our general financial need (travel, food, lodging) or towards a machine.
  5. We are looking for folks who will PRAY for us.

Leave a comment or call me, if you are interested in doing any of the above.

If you’d like more information about our trip, I have a letter that I can send you. Leave a comment or call me for that too.

Friendship Quilt Questions

We want your name and a verse that is significant to you. You can write the reference only or include the words.

We want your name and a verse that is significant to you. You can write the reference only or include the words.

I’ve been getting questions about the Friendship Quilt that CNC’s Women’s Ministry is organizing.  Below are the questions and answers. If you have more questions, don’t hesitate to ask.

  1. Is it too late to sign a block? NOOOO. You will have another opportunity on Sunday, April 21st.
  2. Where do I go to do this? The blank blocks will be in Rudat Hall (at CNC) Sunday morning. A member of the Women’s Ministry Team will be at a table with these blocks and the special pen.

It has been fun looking up the verses that each woman chose. I'd love to know the story behind them. Wouldn't you?

  3. What does it cost? Nothing.
  4. What will you do with the signed blocks? 4 ladies (Scotti, Michelle, Shirley, and Carol) will sew the top together and then quilt the whole thing. THEN we will have a raffle to see who goes home with this meaningful quilt.
  5. What verse would you put on a block? Why? If you've already done this, why did you choose your verse?

What verse would you put on a block? Why? If you’ve already done this, why did you choose your verse?

When may I buy raffle tickets? As soon as the quilt is done, we will sell raffle tickets. Probably sometime in June.

  6. What will you do with the money? The proceeds will go towards Women’s Retreat 2013 expenses.
  7. Tell me again, what do I need to do?
    • (1) Come to Rudat Hall this Sunday morning (April 21st) and locate the table with the quilt blocks.
    • (2) Tell the women’s ministry volunteer that you’d like to sign a block.
    • (3) Listen as she gives you instructions.
    • (4) Sign your name.
    • (5) Write down a verse that is significant to you.

Looking forward to seeing you at THE table.

Five Reasons Women’s Retreat is a Good Value!

At our last women's retreat Jeanne and Barbie led morning exercises in the grassy area outside the lodge.

At our last women’s retreat Jeanne and Barbie led morning exercises in the grassy area outside the lodge.

1. Q.   How much is it and what do you get for the money?

A.    Women’s Retreat 2013 is $180.00. It is 2 nights and 3 days at Zephyr Point, May 31-June 2, 2013. The rooms are hotel style and have fresh sheets, plenty of hot water, and a bed for each woman. The majority of the rooms sleep 2. Check in is 5 pm on Friday.

2. Q.   Anything else?

A.    You get six meals: Friday night dinner, 3 meals on Saturday, breakfast and lunch on Sunday. There will also be snacks provided on Saturday afternoon and evening. If you have food requests (like vegan or lactose-intolerant), the kitchen will accommodate you. Be sure to mark that on the registration form.

3. Q.   Is that it?

A.    Of course not! The teaching and worship time will be top-notch. Jenny Arnez is one of our speakers. As always the schedule is not jam-packed, so you’ll have some free time on Saturday.

4. Q.   That’s a lot for $180.00 That’s it, right?

A.    No way! Each woman will also receive a notebook that has lots of room for note-taking, exercises for quiet time, and resources to continue the learning once home.

5. Q.   Wow! Surely this is it?

A.    Oh, no. The Women’s Ministry Team always spoils each attendee with a bed treat. This secret item is different every year. The only way to get one of these gems is to attend the Retreat.

Q.   Count me in! How do I sign up for the Women’s Retreat this coming May 31-June 2? NOTE: This is not Memorial Day Weekend.

A.    Fill out a registration form which is located on a table in the Foyer. Or email me (susan@cnchurch.org) and I will send you a form. Turn it in with your deposit to the office, put it in an Offering Box, or mail it. Do this today. The spots are limited.

Deposits are due March 10th. You can talk with me or Sydney (our book keeper) to make payments. The final payment is due May 5th.

If you have a question, contact Pastor Susan at susan@cnchurch.org  or 635-5992 x14.

Your Turn . . . . When was the last time you attended a CNC retreat?  . . . . What was your best memory?

CNC’s Woman-to-Woman Mentoring Program: March – Sept 2013

A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken. Ecclesiastes 4:12 New Living Translation

A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.
Ecclesiastes 4:12 New Living Translation

We are fortunate to hear spiritual truths every week from the pulpit. The CNC Woman-to-Woman Mentoring Program will help you live out these truths. Mentoring is the integration of knowledge into life experience. Our program adds God as the third vital piece to knowledge and experience.

Looking for Christian Women Mentees                           A mentee is a woman who has a desire to grow as a Christian woman. Would you like some help? Cordova NeighborhoodChurch is starting a Woman-to-Woman Mentoring Program. It will run from March – September.

The CNC Woman-to-Woman Mentoring Program is a place to build a relationship where you can talk about your on-going life experiences — and hear about your mentor’s life experiences and how God helped grow her through them.

Looking for Christian Women Mentors

Or are you a woman who has walked with the Lord and gained His wisdom and is willing to be open to share what you’ve learned with another woman? We need you to sign up, too.

We encourage two types of women to sign up for this program: mentees and mentors.

Sign Up Today

Prayerfully consider being a MENTOR or a MENTEE. Pick up a form on a table in the Foyer. Put your completed form in one of the offering boxes by March 10.

Don’t be deceived into thinking that you don’t have anything to offer or receive because YOU DO!

Questions? Contact Scotti through the church office or reply to this post.

7 Top Q&A about the Annual Missionary Tea Saturday, February 23, 1-3pm

Our CNC women’s annual tea is coming up and I’ve been getting some questions. Below are the 7 most common ones. If you have one that isn’t listed below, be sure to leave a comment or call me at the office.

The Tea is meant to be a time of relaxation, getting to know one another, and learning about missions. " missions is a matter of unspeakable significance," (Matt Smethurst).

The Tea is meant to be a time of relaxation, getting to know one another, and learning about missions. We believe that “missions is a matter of unspeakable significance,” (Matt Smethurst). And it’s a cool thing to be involved with.

  1. Do I have to wear a dress? No! Only if you want to. Some ladies come wearing hats, gloves, boas, and dresses. Others wear jeans. Wear what’s comfortable.
  2. What is the agenda for this afternoon? We will have time at our tables drinking tea, eating delicious food, and chatting with the folks around us. Then we will adjourn to the Sanctuary where we will have some music, prayer, and hear from our speaker.
  3. What does it cost? This is a free event for ladies. However, the guests are asked to bring food for the 6-7 ladies that they will be sitting with. Your table hostess will call and organize this.
  4. What is the date and time? The tea is on Saturday, February 23rd at Cordova Neighborhood Church. The tea will start precisely at 1pm and end precisely at 3pm.
  5. Why do I have to RSVP? We only have so many tables and chairs. By RSVPing, we are sure to be able to

Ladies who attend this event will be among the first to learn about a new 6 month women’s program that will start the end of March. This is exciting stuff!!!

have a spot for you and your friend (if you’ve invited one).

  6. When is the last day to RSVP? Sunday, February 17th is the last day. We want to make sure all the hostesses have the list of ladies for their table by Monday, February 18th. That way they have time to contact their guests.
  7. What if I get sick and can’t attend? Please call your hostess (or me) right away. We might have ladies on a waiting list that we can then call and invite. This is a popular event and we want everyone who desires to attend, to be able to attend.

If you have questions or need to rescind your RSVP, contact me at 635-5992 x14 or susan@cnchurch.org.

Your Turn . . . RSVP TODAY if you haven’t done so yet. Let me know, if you’d like to be a guest or a hostess.

CNC Will Serve Only Drinkable Tea on Saturday, February 23, 1-3pm in Rudat Hall

xz,mcn,n

Which tea is your favourite? Mine is English Breakfast which is not pictured here. I already drank it all.

There is some dispute as to how many types of teas there are. It seems the number is between 4-7. There is no dispute, however, that at least one tea is not good for the body to drink.

Which one of the following teas does NOT promote health for the body?

  • White
  • Green
  • Compost
  • Herbal

If you guessed compost tea, you would be correct. Compost tea is a tea for the garden.

It is decomposed, nutrient-rich organic matter that is then recycled as fertilizer … soil conditioner, natural pesticide, erosion control, and landfill cover.

SIGN UP TODAY to be part of CNC’s Annual tea. Sign up a friend too.We want to make sure you (two) get a seat.

No Compost Tea Served.

Each table will seat 6-7 ladies. The guests will provide the appetizers for their own table. Your hostess will be in touch with you before the tea.

Your Turn . . . Reply below or call the church office at 635-5992.
