MORE vs less: Do One More Thing Today

Day 13 – Doing “one more thing” was a great motivator for me today. Have you ever tried this mantra?

Do One More Thing — Just do one more thing. Do one more thing. Just do one. Do one. One.

This is my new mantra especially at the end of the day. I want to make my future self happy by being just a little more “declutter” productive each day. But does doing this one more thing make much of a difference? Truthfully, no.

No – not if today was the only time I did that ONE more thing. But what if I did one more thing, today and tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow, etc? THAT would make a difference.

So regarding your clutter, what is the one more thing you’ll do? Here are some ideas.

  • Set the timer for 3 minutes and see how many things you can fling. See this post for an explanation.
  • Declutter one book, one DVD, one item of clothing, one piece of paper, one fridge magnet.
  • Put the full donate box in the trunk of your car.
  • Put one thing away.
  • Unsubscribe from one online newsletter and delete that email.
  • Empty the garbage can.
  • Throw away one item from the fridge or freezer.
  • Put one item in the dishwasher or handwash one item.
  • Recycle one newspaper, one magazine, one plastic container.
  • Make an appointment on your calendar for YOU to read, create, take a walk, connect with someone, pray, have a specialty coffee and do nothing else, Sometimes the best thing we can do for our cluttered lives is to create space for ourselves to rest/refresh.

Day 13 –  31 Minutes of Decluttering = Today’s project was the OCC closet at work. I got so much done because I kept telling myself, “Just one more thing. One More. One!” I will finish the project tomorrow. I also packed my OCC boxes. I need to buy a few more supplies and pay for shipping for each box. This is also a project for tomorrow.

MORE vs less: Your Future Self Will Thank You for Today’s Action

Day 12 – Getting rid of projects today will thrill my future self tomorrow.

I first heard about the future-you concept from Gretchin Rubin. Since then I have seen this idea in multiple places. And I am gravitating towards making it more prevalent in my daily life.

Your Future-Self  Will Thank You For Getting Rid Of Clutter.

Day 12 –  31 Minutes of Decluttering = I spent time sorting my stuff into project piles again. And I decluttered miscellaneous art supplies and papers. I am looking forward to finishing this area because I now have all my watercolour supplies together and I am itching to get back at that medium. And I want to paint those ping pong balls. Friday’s Fave Five October 6, 2017

I am linking today’s gratitude post to Friday’s Fave Five. I hope you join us or leave a comment to share what makes your gratitude list. Here are mine.

ONE. Family time. My daughter and I drove to Berkeley and spent a day with my son and his family. We had a blast: crafts, photos, dinner, chatting, Mary Poppins with popcorn, and snuggles with the two grand daughters.

TWO. Breakfast/Farmer’s Market with Bip & Lori. We’ve wanted to meet up since August. This was the earliest that all of us could get together. And it was worth the wait! We talked, moaned, encouraged, laughed, and connected.

THREE. Gratitude 43. I am on day 24/43 for my gratitude practice. I’ve picked some topics and I write three reasons I am grateful for that topic. I have been faithfully pondering and writing. And I feel that my gratitude level has been upped.

FOUR. Writing date. My daughter has joined me in #Write31Days. Her topic for the month is  “How backpacking has enriched my daily life.” This week we had two writing dates. It was encouraging to spend a couple of hours (each time) with a writing buddy at a local coffee shop so we could dedicate time to our blogs.

FIVE. Heating pad. A heating pad is great “medicine” for a hurting back.
