Top Two Things I’ve Learned about Blogging (T2T)

Don’t shoot me. I know it’s not Tuesday, but I really want to answer this question. To read others who answered this same question go to the Undomestic Momma blog, 64 people have answered at this link.

Two things I’ve learned.

1. Read deeply. There are soooooo many good blogs out there. And I want to read them all. But it is just not feasible. So I am learning to pick a few and get to know them. I read for more than information. I also read for community. But to make sure I don’t spend more time on my virtual life than my real life, I set a timer and then get off-line once the timer dings!!!

2. Leave comments. Since I am reading blogs for more than information, I am trying to slow myself down long enough to leave a comment after I read a post. I leave comments to acknowledge I learned something, I now have a new point of view, or I related to the writer. Sometimes I have something to offer. Leaving a comment helps me to live in the moment by fixing that idea in my head.

Great question! I’ve been trimming my blog roll, too, because I can’t keep up with all of them in the way that I’d like to. For now, I skim through the list of new posts and read very selectively–mostly from my favorite blogs/bloggers, but sometimes another post if the title intrigues me.

As a blogger, I would rather have readers who–like you–read deeply and comment regularly. One thoughtful comment is better than many superficial ones.

I am still new to the blogging world both as a reader and a writer. I can see how it might be important (or just plain easier) to stick to a few blogs that motivate, encourage, have common interest, etc. And I do see the importance of leaving a comment. As a writer, I love them. It helps me know that others understand me, or maybe even may question something. Any thing two-sided like that aids relationships. If you want one-sided, read the paper. As a reader, I have learned that blogging can be a wonderful avenue to learn from others.

  I agree, I have learned a LOT from bloggers. And it is on my time schedule too (usually early a.m.)

I’ve had to “de-follow” some blogs because I just didn’t feel a connection. I have a few that I read daily; those are the ones who I feel connected to. For all of the posts I read, i try to leave a comment so they author will know I’ve been there. That’s how the connection starts!

  Another way I see if there is potential for a connection is by checking a person’s About Me page. I like seeing a photo and hearing a little about their life. I.e. It intrigues me that you live at the foot of Old Smokey.

  Once I figured out an editorial calendar (only through the end of March) it has been easier. Although I am already off track because of choosing other topics to write on. But that’s okay since I will put the topics I haven’t written about into slots for April.
